Moulavi cautions revival of Wahhabism from Kattankudy

Based on the 1979 verdict of All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama Secretary – Alhaj Abdul Jawadh Alim Waliyyullah Trust Moulavi K. R. M. Sahlan Rabbani in a letter addressed to Minister of Justice Ali Sabry had stated that there will be an opportunity for another person from Kattankudy other than Zahran Hashim to mobilise Muslim Youth pursue Wahhabism and turn them into extremism. “In the future, there will be an opportunity for another person from Kattankudy to campaign based on the 1979 verdict of All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama, popularising among the people of Kattankudy and mobilise Muslim youth to actively pursue Wahhabi fundamentalism and turn them towards to extremism. This is because it is an obvious fact that all such activities have been carried out by the terrorist Zahran Hashim in the past and it should be noted that Zahran Hashim was born in 1986,” the Moulavi said in his letter. As a result of this, Wahhabi fundamentalists shot dead Moulavee MSM.Farooq Qadiree in his house on 1998.05.29 citing the religious ruling issued by All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama that "Murtads should be killed". This is the first massacre in the history of Sri Lanka by Wahhabi fundamentalists.

(16) Kattankudy Jamiyyathul Ulama published a warning to the Muslim people via the Tamil newspaper "Thinakaran" on 2004.10.11 denoting the 1979 religious verdict (Fatwa) issued against our spiritual leader by All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama.

(17) The Wahhabis who completely besieged the Kattankudy town from 31.10.2004 for the period of one week and then from 30.09.2006 to 06.10.2006, not only demolished the shrines of Islamic great saints which had been the ancient monuments in Kattankudy but also burnt and razed the Sufi mosques, Qur'an schools, homes of Sufi Muslims and business centres. Not only that Sufi Muslims were beaten and dragged to the mosques in Kattankudy by Wahhabis and forced to publicly announce via loudspeakers of mosques that they had given up Sufism. Therefore, Sufi Muslims took shelter as refugees in Tamil villages in neighbouring area.
